Microsoft has recently announced some important updates to their Microsoft 365 suite, introducing new billing flexibility and pricing changes. These updates aim to provide businesses with greater control over their subscriptions and align pricing with the value these tools deliver.
At Virtuoso, we are here to help you navigate these changes and ensure your business thrives. Here is a breakdown of what is changing and how it might affect your organisation.
Price Increase for Annual Subscriptions with Monthly Billing
Beginning 1 April 2025, Microsoft is introducing a standardised structure for monthly billing on all annual term subscriptions. This change includes a 5% price increase across all products with monthly billing, ensuring consistency and simplifying billing processes for businesses.
This update affects a wide range of Microsoft products, including:
- Microsoft 365
- Office 365
- Enterprise Mobility + Security
- Windows 365
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 Services
- Microsoft Power Platform
Businesses can retain their current pricing by switching to annual billing with an upfront payment at their next renewal. At Virtuoso, we can assist with managing this transition and help you decide which option aligns best with your organisation’s needs.
Flexible Billing for Microsoft 365 Copilot
Starting from 1 December 2024, Microsoft 365 Copilot annual term subscriptions, including Copilot for Sales and Copilot for Service, will offer a new monthly billing option. This update is a direct response to customer and partner feedback, providing greater flexibility without locking businesses into upfront annual payments.
While the convenience of monthly billing comes at a slight premium – 5% higher than the annual billing option – it is available across all purchasing platforms, including Buy Online, CSP, and MCA-E. Importantly, the annual billing price remains unchanged, offering consistent value for those who prefer the traditional payment method.
Pricing Updates for Teams Phone
Microsoft Teams Phone has been a game-changer for communication and collaboration since its launch in 2017. Starting from 1 April 2025, Teams Phone will see its first pricing adjustments for standalone plans.
Here’s what the new annual billing rates look like:
- Teams Phone Standard: $120 per user/year ($10 per user/month)
- Teams Phone for Frontline Workers: $60 per user/year ($5 per user/month)
- Teams Phone with Calling Plans: Pricing starts at $264 per user/year ($22 per user/month), depending on the region and calling plan.
Monthly billing options for Teams Phone will also align with the 5% standardised pricing increase. Existing customers will retain their current rates until their next renewal, offering some time to plan for the adjustment.

So, What Does This Mean for Your Business?
Changes like these can feel overwhelming, especially when your organisation is juggling multiple subscriptions. Here is the takeaway:
- Price Adjustment: It’s important to note the 5% increase from Microsoft will be across all products from the specified dates.
- Flexibility: You will now have more choices in how you pay for your subscriptions, which can help align payments with your financial strategy.
- Clarity: Standardising monthly billing costs simplifies the landscape, making it easier to understand what is being charged and why.
- Value Assessment: The updates may reflect Microsoft’s ongoing investment in their services, but it is also an opportunity to assess whether your current subscriptions are still the best fit for your organisation’s needs.
